The statutory presence your company needs in Sweden
Foreign companies operating here carry obligations that have to be met by someone established in Sweden. We are that someone — and we are lawyers, not a mailbox.
Four obligations, one adviser
Swedish and EU law each require a foreign company to appoint someone established locally. They are separate legal roles with separate consequences, and companies usually discover them one at a time, late.
Process agent
Required where no authorised representative of your Swedish company lives in Sweden. Receives court and authority service on the company's behalf.
Registered address
A Swedish address authorities and counterparties can use, with post received, read and forwarded the same working day.
GDPR representative
Required for non-EU controllers and processors handling data about people in the EU. Failing to appoint one is an infringement by itself.
Packaging representative
Required for non-EU producers placing packaged goods on the Swedish market. Handled by our sister service, PPWR Sweden.
Getting established
Before the ongoing obligations begin, something has to exist. We form Swedish companies and register branches for foreign owners, deal with the board residency requirement that catches most groups out, and complete the tax and beneficial ownership registrations that let the company actually trade.
Why this sits with a legal adviser
Most of what we do could, on paper, be done by an administrator filling in forms. The reason it is not is that the forms commit you to things. A branch registration exposes the parent company's balance sheet. A beneficial ownership entry is a public statement about who controls your group. Accepting service of process means standing between a company and the Swedish courts.
